House system

The House System at Theale Green School is a unique, exciting and crucial part of life at Theale Green School.

There are four Houses: Benyon, Hunt, Piper and Scott.

Each House exists to win.

Each House is determined to come out on top.

Each House strives to be the best.

But only one House will win The Governor’s Cup

What is a house?

A House is a group of students, teachers, support staff and parents who work as a team. They take part in activities, competitions and always strive to be the best they can be. They work hard in lessons gaining House points for their Progress, Hard Work and Respect. To put it simply, a House will win by getting the most House points over a year.

For every hundred House Points students get a certificate. Each 100 points moves them up the House Ladder towards The Philosopher’s Stone.

Students from Theale Green School are placed in a House at the start of Year 7, they will remain in that House until Year 13.

Students join with their House every half term at House assemblies. This will be an opportunity to celebrate successes and plan for future victories!

Students also have the opportunity to get more House Points by attending our many clubs

Winning House Points

As well as getting House points for Progress, Hard Work and Respect during the school day, students can also win points for the House Quiz every Friday in tutor time, for taking part in House competitions, charity fairs and key events such as Sports Day, House Performance, House Quiz Night and Theale’s Got Talent. Students will also get points for attending clubs, being part of school productions, representing the school and for supporting performances!

The Philosopher’s Stone

In ancient mythology it was believed that The Philosopher’s Stone was a legendary substance that could turn lead into gold. It was also considered to be the elixir of life, giving immortality to the person who possessed it. Crucially it is a symbol of perfection and enlightenment. It is the highest goal a student can achieve.

1000 points are needed to achieve The Philosopher’s Stone.

Respect, Hard Work and Progress Cards

Respect, Hard Work and Progress Cards are given out by teachers in lessons, or at break, lunchtime or after school, for demonstrating the positive behaviours that go above and beyond expectations.

The cards are worth 5 House Points. To be awarded these House Points students need to go to the House Hub at lunchtime on any day of the week where a Head of House or the Head of Student Engagement will log the marks so they are added to individual and House totals.

The House Hub

The House Hub is a place to meet at lunchtime to play board games, eat lunch, compete in mini House challenges, play Foosball and meet House Captains.

The room is laid out in the House colours with displays and information about each House and coming events. It is a warm and friendly place to keep out of the rain and cold too on chilly days!
