This week Theale Green School welcomed author, Gary Toward, to talk with Year 8 and Year 9 students about his writing.

Gary Toward took students on a journey through time as he discussed his historical crime novel, The Magpie.

Set in World War One, the book follows Detective Constable Frank Bolam who is tasked with solving a murder mystery to catch the elusive killer. The book is set in the North East of England but ends in the hell of the trenches during WW1.

He went on to explain to the pupils how the main character is based off his own experiences as a child in a mining family, and how they can use their own knowledge and experiences to make their writing more realistic.

Gary also took the time to hold a writing masterclass with budding students covering writing techniques and answering any questions the students had.

Theale Green School would like to thank Gary for his time and inspiring our students with his writing and talks.
