Our Sixth Form Futures Day provided an exciting opportunity for students to explore the wide range of career and study options available after school.

Taking place on On Tuesday 17th June, the event offered a mix of university guidance and apprenticeship advice, helping students consider their next steps with greater confidence and clarity.

We were delighted to welcome representatives from the University of Reading, one of the UK’s top 25 universities. Their engaging presentation gave students a clear understanding of university life, course options and application tips. The talk was so well received that several of our students are now planning to attend their open day on Friday to find out more.

Alongside academic insights, students also heard from industry professionals across a range of sectors. Local motorsport engineering firm Xtrac – whose clients include teams in Formula One – joined us to share their expertise and apprenticeship opportunities. Other companies represented included Vodafone, Newbury Corn Exchange and The Watermill Theatre, each sharing perspectives from their respective industries.

A highlight of the day was hearing from some of our recent alumni, who returned to share their post-sixth-form journeys. Charlotte Manning, who completed Sixth Form just last year, is now thriving as an engineering apprentice at Xtrac. She gave an honest and relatable account of her experience in the role, as well as the emotions and decisions she faced while in Year 12. Her story was both inspiring and reassuring for current students considering the apprenticeship route.

We also welcomed back Louis Napper and Bea Bruscato, both of whom left Sixth Form last year and are now studying History at Falmouth University and Law at the University of Sussex respectively. They offered advice on choosing the right university, crafting standout personal statements and adjusting to life as a student. Their reflections on lectures, course content and the social aspects of university life offered a realistic glimpse into higher education.

We’re incredibly grateful to all our guests and alumni for their contributions to the day. Their generosity in sharing experiences and advice ensured that our students left feeling inspired, informed  and empowered to take their next steps toward the future.
