A Reading-born MP visited Theale Green School on Friday 22 November, to take a tour, meet students and speak with Headteacher Charlotte Badarello about the school’s incredible journey of improvement.

Olivia Bailey MP (Lab, Reading West and Mid Berkshire) took a tour of school, heading into classrooms to witness first-hand the experience at Theale Green School.

Student representatives Rose, Astrid, Lew, Poppy, Lauren, Megan, Aaron, Corey and Tao, and Politics Teacher, Ms Loxton, met with Ms Bailey and were given the opportunity to ask questions, including why Ms Bailey wanted to become an MP, what the culture is really like in the House of Commons, what challenges she has faced so far, and about what Labour will be doing about education.

Theale Green School, which marked its 60th anniversary last year, has seen an incredible turnaround over the past five years, from joining the Activate Learning Education Trust in 2018 with a ‘Requires Improvement’ Ofsted grading, to where it is today – Ofsted rated ‘Good’ and the fastest growing secondary school in West Berkshire!

MP Olivia Bailey commented, “I was delighted to visit Theale Green School earlier today. The school has a real family feel and they have some fantastic facilities. I also met with students and talked with them about Parliament, politics and what motivated me to become an MP. Thank you for having me.”

Headteacher Charlotte Badarello commented on the visit: “We were delighted to welcome Olivia Bailey MP to Theale Green School. It was an excellent opportunity to showcase the incredible progress our school community has made in recent years. Ms. Bailey’s genuine interest in education and her insightful discussion with our students and staff highlighted the importance of investing in the next generation. Her visit was truly inspiring, and we are grateful for her encouragement as we continue our journey of growth and success.”
