Sixth form has been busy at tutor times on Friday mornings since January with buddy reading between Year 7’s, 8’s and dedicated Year 12’s. The students have been sharing and discussing books.

Eleven Year 7 and 8 students made so much progress with their reading they graduated from the provision and new students started in May.

We launched a Road to Paris Reading Olympiad in May with weekly challenges of new questions and activities to encourage engagement with the text they are reading.

Overall 30 Sixth Formers and 36 Year 7’s and 8’s have taken part in the paired reading scheme this year.

Friday 12 July was our last buddy reading of the summer term. Medal certificates and rewards were given out to all those who took part. The students reported becoming more confident with reading aloud. Our students with English as an additional language appreciated the chance to practise and improve their English. The students have all been a credit to themselves and our school community.
