Last month, Theale Green School students ventured to Reading for the annual Poetry Live! event.
Students heard poetry from award-winning poets including Simon Armitage, Gillian Clarke, John Agard, Carol Ann Duffy, Imtiaz Dharker, Daljit Nagra and Owen Sheers.
The trip was part of the student’s English language studies, taking learning out of the classroom and into the hands of professional poets to demonstrate language in action.
Alongside poetry, there was also a session with Chief Examiners who shared their knowledge and tips for success in upcoming GCSE English Literature examinations.
These sessions detailed how students might deal with unseen poems in an exam setting, as well as showing them how to compare poems in order to write most effectively about them.
