The ASD unit at Theale Green School consists of a Head of Department, two Deputies and ten Learning Mentors. We also have a part-time yoga instructor and art therapist. Our staff are kind, supportive and caring.

The Learning Mentors support students in class, creating strong relationships and encouraging their students to become independent in their work, as well as building their confidence and self esteem. If students are experiencing difficulties in class or with friendships groups, the staff are there to listen and help find a solution.

The unit offers separate spaces for KS3 and KS4.  These spaces consist of a quiet room, computer room and a main working room. These rooms are available before tutor, breaktime and lunchtime. Students can use these rooms for quiet reading, playing games, building lego, taking part in 1:1 sessions and for those that are uncomfortable with changing for PE in the main PE changing room, they can change in the unit. There is also the use of its own toilet facilities. The unit offers a safe place for students, where they can play or work either independently with other students or supported by a member of staff.

The unit also offers its students 1:1 yoga and art therapy sessions once a week. There is also the use of the kitchen facilities where students can make anything from cakes and cookies to a full family meal. For students who struggle to do homework at home, they can attend our homework club. This is run by two members of staff after school for an hour, twice a week and they will help students complete work.

As students return to school this month, the unit will look slightly different as we practice regular hand washing, the use of hand sanitiser and social distancing, to help keep everyone safe.
